SAFE License

30th June 2011

FRMSc are pleased to announce an agreement with QinetiQ limited to take an exclusive world wide license to develop and market the System for Aircrew Fatigue Evaluation (SAFE) bio-mathematical model.

SAFE predicts likely human fatigue of aircrew during their duty and is an essential part of any Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS) implemented in the aviation industry.

Originally developed by a team led by Mick Spencer during his tenure at QinetiQ and funded in part by the Civil Aviation Authority, the model is the most advanced of its kind in the world having been specifically designed and avalidated for use in the aviation sector.

Aircrew are exposed to duties that span different time zone and are characterised by long duty periods at irregular and unsocial hours. These irregular work rest periods encourage fatigue which can be predicted using the SAFE model. Knowing the likely fatigue of any aircrew, managers may then tune duty rosters to assure employee and passenger safety as part of their FRMS.

Licensed customers will be able to access the model for their own use from the end of October 2011
